Goplus 8 Speed Electric Trolling Motor Review

Goplus Electric Trolling Motor Review: Power on Water That Won’t Break the Bank

After spending countless weekends fishing with an old, unreliable trolling motor that seemed to have a mind of its own, I finally decided it was time for an upgrade. I stumbled upon the Goplus Electric Trolling Motor while searching for something affordable yet powerful enough for my 14-foot fishing boat. I’ve now been using it for about three months across various water conditions, and I think I’ve got a pretty good handle on what this little powerhouse can and can’t do.

The Goplus offers different thrust options ranging from 45 to 86 pounds, making it suitable for various boat sizes. I went with the 55-pound thrust model, which seemed to hit the sweet spot for my needs. Let me break down my experience with this budget-friendly trolling motor.

Goplus Electric Trolling Motor 8 Speed, 46 Lbs Thrust Boat Fishing Motor w/Telescoping Handle, Two-bladed Propeller, LED Battery Indicator and 36" Shaft for Freshwater Saltwater Use (46LBS)
  • 【Powerful & Quiet Trolling Motor】The 46/55/86LBS pound thrust to this electric trolling motor gives you a lot of power to push the boat with strong force to generate a wake off and on for several hours before requiring a charge. And even at the full speed, the motor can run very quietly.
  • 【Forward & Reverse Speed Adjustments】The 8 speed control system (5 forward speeds and 3 reverse speeds) allows you to fully control the motor through the dial on the ergonomic telescopic handle, so as to achieve a smooth, highly adjustable ride. The reverse speed will let you get rid of any jams!
  • 【Sturdy Built for Salty or Fresh Water Use】Made of glass fiber composite rods, durable die-cast aluminum heads and reinforced composite materials, it can resist bending, warping and damage, and is very suitable for use in fresh water and salt water. When trapped in heavy weeds, it will trip the fuse before it blows to prevent burning the motor.
  • 【Adjustable Shaft for Easy Maneuver】The adjustable shaft allows for proper depth placement in different water conditions. Together with the mounting bracket tilt mechanism, you can set it to desired height and angle to comfortably steer by sitting or standing, so that you don’t have to bend over from your pedestal seat to operate it.
  • 【Portable Design with LED Battery Indicator】The transom mount trolling boat motor is powerful and easy to operate. The battery light on this motor is also a big advantage in helping you know when it's either time to go in and recharge, or take out a second battery.

Built to Last

The first thing that struck me about the Goplus motor was its surprisingly solid construction. The shaft is made of composite fiberglass, which gives it excellent durability while keeping the weight manageable. It doesn’t feel flimsy like some other budget options I’ve tried in the past. The telescoping handle extends smoothly and locks securely, though occasionally it takes a bit of jiggling to get it to snap into place just right.

The motor head is compact but robust, with a two-blade propeller that’s protected by a metal cage – a feature I’ve already thanked my lucky stars for after bumping into a partially submerged log. The transom mounting brackets are straightforward and seem to be made of decent quality materials. I did notice a few rough edges here and there, but honestly, nothing that affects functionality.

Power When You Need It

I’ve taken this motor out in both calm and somewhat choppy conditions, and it’s held its own remarkably well. The 55-pound thrust version provides enough power to move my boat at a reasonable pace, even against mild currents. I was particularly impressed with how it handled a windy day on Lake Michigan – it kept us on course despite some challenging conditions.

The 8-speed control system (5 forward, 3 reverse) offers good versatility, though I find myself mostly using speeds 3-5 for forward movement. The transition between speeds is smooth enough, with minimal delay. Battery consumption seems fairly efficient – I typically get around 5-6 hours of intermittent use before needing to recharge, which is perfectly adequate for my day trips.

One thing I’ve noticed is that at maximum speed, there’s a bit more noise than I expected. Not deafening by any means, but something to be aware of if you’re hoping for whisper-quiet operation. The motor does run very quietly at lower speeds though, which is great for not scaring away fish.

What Others Are Saying

Looking at the Amazon reviews, the Goplus Electric Trolling Motor maintains a respectable 4.2 out of 5 stars rating. Most users seem to share my sentiment that it offers excellent value for money.

One reviewer notes: “For the price point you can’t beat this motor. I’ve had mine for 6 months using it on my 14′ aluminum boat and it’s been great. Plenty of power and battery life is decent. Installation was straightforward.”

Another customer points out some limitations: “Works well for my needs but the handle feels a bit flimsy. I’ve had to tighten the mount several times. Still, for the price I paid I can’t complain too much.”

A common theme in the reviews is the balance of quality and affordability. Most users acknowledge it’s not a premium product but exceeds expectations for its price range.

Who Should Buy This?

For Beginners: This is an excellent choice if you’re just getting into boating or fishing. It’s affordable, easy to install, and straightforward to operate. The reasonable power options make it forgiving for those still learning boat control. Perhaps the perfect entry-level trolling motor.

For Intermediate Users: If you’re an occasional weekend angler with a small to medium-sized boat, the Goplus offers good performance without breaking the bank. The various thrust options let you match the motor to your specific boat size. You might find some limitations during extended use, but they’re unlikely to be dealbreakers.

For Advanced Users: If you’re out on the water frequently or have a larger boat, you might want to consider a higher-end option. While the Goplus is surprisingly capable, serious anglers who demand precision control, ultra-quiet operation, and premium durability might find it somewhat lacking. It’s a great backup motor though!
